Study shows that people who dont own a car and live near to fast food places have a greater risk of Obesity. If you dont have a car and live in a close proximity to fast food restaurans, it is more likely that you expierience a excess body mass index and weight gain. That is the outcome of a study by the Univeristy of Pittsburgh which is avaiable online and was published in the September issue of the Journal of Urban Health. Adults in areas with high fast food concentration who did not have a car were as much as 12 pounds heavier than those who lived in neigborhoods that lacked such type of restaurants.Despite the fact not owning a car is associated with more exercise through walking and less sitting in the car the opposite was proven if Fast Food is nearby. People not owning a car in fast food areas have a far more increased risk of obesity. People who don't own cars are less likely to go distances for healthier foods. They often end up chosing the low-priced and high caloric foodsa available at fast food chains. The study was based on a survey of 2,156 adults in Los Angeles. Car owners weighted 8,5 pounds more than non car owners - except in areas with high fast food concentration (>5 fast food options per mile). The car less population in areas with the fast food outlets where 12pounds heavier than residents of areas without the high caloric restaurants on sight.
